Tutorial

Here is another tutorial for you. it’s pretty easy. it’s made in photoshop CS2

We’re going to go from to

we start off with a screencap, i got mine from qaf-caps.com:

crop it –> filter –> sharpen. next go to image –> adjustments –> auto levels. that lightens it up some on its own.

next go to image –> adjustments –> variations. once that pops up, click more cyan, more blue, more red, lighter, more cyan. note: it really depends on your base though. for instance, you might need to click darker for some bases and skip lighter or more cyan. just do whatever works for your base.

duplicate your base, set it to soft light – opacity 100%. new adjustment layer –> selective color. input the following settings. reds: -100, 0, -18, -14. yellows: -100, 0, +100, +2. neutrals: +9, -13, -13, +9

new color fill layer. fill it with #f5d5ed, set it to soft light – opacity 61%

duplicate your base. drag it to the top, and set it to screen – opacity 11%

merge visible(ctrl + alt + shift +E). filter –> sharpen –> edit –> fade sharpen to 60%. set the layer to multiply – opacity 8%

new adjustment layer –> color balance. input the following settings: midtones: +30, +18, +20. shadows: +25, -2, +5. set the layer to multiply – 26%

new adjustment layer –> brightness/contrast. once that pops up, set the brightness to -17.

new color fill layer. fill it with #110b2f. set it to exclusion – opacity 33%

merge visible again(crtl + alt + shift + E). now, see that little yellow spot by justin’s chin? we’re going to make it less noticeable. with your blur tool, take a 5px brush, set the strength to 21%, and blur it. i also blurred brian’s five o’clock shadow just a little bit and the background.

duplicate your base. drag it to the top, and set it to screen – opacity 35%

take this texture from [info]sanami276 and paste it to your icon, and set it to multiply. it didn’t cover the whole icon, so i flipped it around a bit and transformed it until it did.

add text/whatever, flatten your image and you’re done!

here is my layer palette:

note:  i’m not an expert at this, i merely do it for fun and to learn, and i like to share if it’s going to help someone.

other icons made with the same technique, just different settings:

– comments/credit make me happy.

– all icons are shareable if anyone wants them.

Comments are lovely, and so are questions. If you do end up using this I would love to see what you make out of it!
